GUEST SPEAKER PRESENTATION
Retired Major and US Army Ranger Tom Shandy will be our guest, along with K-9 Service Dog “Duke”.
Tom represents Warrior Paws, whose mission is to provide Veterans and First Responders with service dogs to reduce suicide rates and improve quality of life.
The organization also provides a network and opportunities for vets and first responders to continue to enjoy the kind of satisfaction and camaraderie they experienced during their time of service.
Warrior Paws is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit creation of Rucker Dog Training, whose founder, Scot Rucker, is it’s lead trainer.
2026-27 POST 307 OFFICER ELECTIONS
Following the Warrior Paws presentation, we will conduct our annual election of officers. The Nominating Committee is at work recruiting nominees. All members in good standing are eligible to run, and self-nominations are accepted. In addition to the Nominating Committee’s recommendations, nominations will be accepted from the floor the night of the election.

This event features a flag ceremony, Honor Guard, recognition of Veterans and First Responders, music, and more!
POST 307 MEMBERS: This is not only a salute to current and former members of our Armed Forces, but a major annual community outreach and fundraiser for your post. As before, we ask that each member buy the five tickets in the packet you will receive in the mail.
Use the tickets yourself, give them as gifts, or resell them. Use the return envelope you received to mail your check, or click below to use a credit or debit card ($2.25 credit card transaction fee is included).
Volunteers Needed: To help prepare and serve at this important event. We will begin preparation and setup at 8:30 AM. Click on the “SIGN UP” button below to help for a couple of hours or all day.
Join your community, Post 307, and other Veterans groups for the Annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Cumming City Center Lou Sobh Amphitheater.
We will honor our fallen brothers and sisters with new additions to the City’s Avenue of Flags display, hear a keynote address from Tom McDonald (Retired Army Colonel), and more.
Event will be held rain or shine; please plan accordingly.
Please plan to sit on the amphitheater seat wall or bring your own lawn chair.
Legionnaires should wear Legion headgear or full summer Legion attire.
Forsyth County Fire & Sheriff's Department Honor Guard will render the rifle salute.

This year’s Veterans Day observance will be held at the Cumming City Center Veterans Memorial, 423 Canton Rd, Cumming, at 11:00 AM on WEDNESDAY, November 11, rain or shine.
Post 307 will be the host VSO this year, responsible for all planning and execution.
Bring a lawn chair and come out to honor our Veterans.

Post 307 is a longtime supporter of the Marine Corps Junior ROTC cadets at North Forsyth High School. Come help us honor these motivated young cadets in NFHS “Raider Valley” at 5:30pm on April 23rd.
Post 307 will present awards to two outstanding cadets and a substantial donation to the Unit’s rifle team.
Your presence and support mean a great deal to the cadets.
Wear Legion winter uniform if you have it (or headgear alone).
MEMBERS IN LEGION UNIFORM MAY PARTICIPATE IN THE CEREMONIES. PLEASE ARRIVE 30 MINUTES EARLY AT 5:00 FOR INSTRUCTIONS. OTHERWISE PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THE ROTC CADETS AND YOUR POST 307 REPRESENTATIVES at 5:30.
(In case of inclement weather, the event will take place at “Raider Arena”.)
In addition to the business meeting, this month’s meeting will feature our annual Post Everlasting Ceremony, where we honor the memory of fellow Legionnaires who have passed away in recent months.
The Georgia Department of Veterans Service is available to assist veterans with Veterans Administration benefits and claims.
GDVS's Rico Johnson will be at the AboutFace-USA Center Tuesday March 3rd, 10a-12p for a convenient location for veterans to file claims. Please share this information.

Our February 9th meeting will be the devoted to the annual Post 307 Constitutional Oratory Contest, where Forsyth County high school students will compete by presenting speeches about the U.S. Constitution. The winner can move through move through several levels of competition, winning significant scholarship money along the way.
Plan to attend and be encouraged about today’s students and share your congratulations with those who compete!
(Our only item of business will be a vote to approve the Post 307 budget for FY2026-27.)

Our special guest speaker will be VFW Post 9143 Chaplain
Matthew J. Pesce, Veteran of the 101st Airborne Division, Vietnam.
"Chaplain Matt" is a retired veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served with the Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne Infantry in 1967. He was wounded in action and retired with a 100% disability.
He has served as a hospice volunteer in Veterans Recognition Programs and currently serves as Chaplain of the Dawsonville Vietnam Veterans of America and as Chaplain of VFW Post 9143 in Cumming.
A fellow member of American Legion Post 307, Matthew also serves as a Group Facilitator for the Connection of Forsyth, an addition recovery program.
His message will be about
Veterans and their Commitment to Patriotism.
(Note that the VFW Post 9143 Canteen is now open on Mondays from 3pm until 8pm. Why not come early for some fellowship and camaraderie in the Canteen before the meeting?)

Post 307 will participate in the Cumming Christmas Parade with our “Howie the Howitzer” float. We’ll decorate the float IN THE CUMMING FAIRGROUNDS PARKING LOT between 3:00 and 3:30 PM and begin lining up NLT 4:00PM at Forsyth Central HS on Tribble Gap Road.
The parade route begins at Forsyth Central High School and ends at the Cumming Fairgrounds.
Post 307 and SAL Squadron 307 members are invited to help decorate and ride or march alongside the float.

The October General Membership meeting will feature a presentation by members of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office on scams and how to avoid them.
The Cumming Fair Parking Concession is a major fundraising opportunity for Post 307. We need YOU to help us collect parking fees, direct patrons to parking spots, and be the smiling face of the American Legion.
There will be two shifts requiring at least eight (8) volunteer workers required per shift. Sons of the American Legion (SAL) Squadron 307 members are also invited to work one or both of the shifts. Shifts are 11:00AM to 3:00PM and 3:00PM to 7:30PM.

(One of our speakers was elected as a Senator from Georgia Girls State and went on the Girls Nation event recently).

Post 307 members should wear Legion regalia, either:
Summer dress (no jacket, substitute khaki shorts OK) & any Legion headgear,
Legion golf shirt & any Legion headgear, or
Patriotic colors & Legion headgear if available. (Dave Mullis will have Legion Post 307 caps for sale for those who need them !)
7:15-7:30 TEAM HOWIE meets at Post 127 parking lot to pick up Howie and flags, decorations, give-away items, etc. and tow to Fairgrounds parking lot.
8:00-8:30 DECORATING TEAM meets Howie in Fairgrounds parking lot and decorates the float.
8:30-8:45 We all move Howie to Bank of America parking lot (corner Trimble Gap Rd & W.Main St).
9:00 The rest of the participants assemble and begin line-up in the Bank of America parking lot at the corner of Tribble Gap Rd and W. Main St. in Cumming.
10:00 Parade Starts. End point is Cumming Fairgrounds parking area.
